Gibbous Moon

YouTube and the internet are full of moon shots taken with today's crop of mega zoom bridge cameras.  Of course I had to try it for myself!  Not bad what a 35x optical zoom can accomplish with a bit of digital zoom thrown in for good measure.  This picture was taken with the Canon SX 40HS.  The basic stats on this photo are 1/60 sec. exposure, f/5.8, and ISO 800.  It was a challenge to keep the moon in my sights once I passed into the digital zoom zone.  However, my camera has a useful feature called "Zoom Framing Assist" which helps you reacquire your subject with the touch of a button.  I also should have used a tripod, but I wanted to get right out there in a hurry.  I just missed the full moon last week due to the weather, but I'm sure there will be more moon shots to come for me.  I'll also try to be patient enough to use my tripod.
